The Doula Care You Deserve
Every birth is special. Whether it takes place at the hospital or at home, each is beautiful and deserving of celebration. No matter how you birth your baby, everyone can benefit from having a doula present at the moment of delivery. Contact me to learn more about my services, and how I can help assist you during this special time.
Kayla Gardunio is a Certified Doula serving the New River Valley, Roanoke, and surrounding areas. She is NRP certified (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) as well as Infant, Child, and Adult CPR, AED, and First Aid certified. She has experience serving as a birth assistant in out of hospital birth settings and is currently studying to become a CPM (Certified Professional Midwife) and CLC (Certified Lactation Counselor). She is the mother of four beautiful children and has experienced both in hospital and out of hospital births herself. Her goal is to give you and your family the support and knowledge you need to make informed decisions about your pregnancy and labor process. Her job is to support YOU in helping you to accomplish the birth that YOU want!

Informative and Compassionate
After beginning our relationship with an interview and meet and greet, I like to meet with you three times throughout your pregnancy. As your doula I am committed to your health and the wellbeing of your growing family and am available whenever needed throughout your entire pregnancy as well as after giving birth. I will be there to provide you with continuous emotional and physical support, and answer any and all questions you may have.
Here for You
I want to help you in anyway I can to achieve the birth that you have always imagined. I will help you form and prioritize your birth plan. When the time comes I will be there to support you in any and every decision that you make during your birth. I can be as hands on or hand off as you like, using different comfort techniques throughout your labor.
I like to visit with you once after delivery. During this visit I will be there to answer any questions and help with things like breastfeeding and postpartum care. During this time I am also available for emotional support. This time can be difficult with a vast array of emotions and hormones. It doesn't make it any easier having a new tiny human to take care of throughout it all. It can all be a little overwhelming. Sometimes just having someone to lend an ear can go far. Even after my last visit I am available by text, email, and phone for advice and just to talk if you need it. I am here for you the whole way!
Dads and Significant Others
Doulas are for you too!
Something I hear a lot is that Dads are often apprehensive of hiring a doula because they're afraid we're "taking his place". This is not at all true!! A doula isn't there to only support the birthing woman; she's there to support the family unit. Becoming a parent for the first time, or welcoming another child is a big day for dads and partners, not just mama. By providing support for dad, a doula helps him to support the mother too. A doula doesn't replace a birthing mothers partner. She's there to guide and support the mother and partner during the birth process. She's part of the team, not a replacement.
Encapsulation and Art
There are many benefits of consuming your placenta. It can help with hormonal imbalances after birth affecting your overall mood, bonding with your new baby, preventing postpartum depression, hemorrhage, and even your milk supply. I offer encapsulation services for those who would like to consume it in capsule form as well as a tincture for later use during future menstrual cycles and even menopause! Yes, the placenta can even help with those things down the road. I also offer basic placenta prints at no additional cost to all clients who would like one as a memorable keepsake.
