We start off our joinery together with an interview. This is at absolutely no cost to you. This is a way for us to get to know each other and for you to see if I would be a good fit for you and your family. The interview is usually held in a public spot of your choosing. For example: libraries, parks, coffee houses, etc. During the interview I can answer any questions you have about my services and we can go over my contract. There is no obligation to sign or pay anything at the interview. If you decide during or after the interview that you would like to go forward with my services then we will set up your first prenatal visit.
Prenatal visits are a great time for education and for us to better get to know each other. How far along you are in your pregnancy will depend on how many prenatal visits we will get to. Normally I like to have 3 visits ranging between 60-90 minutes long. Roughly 12, 27, and 36 weeks gestation with 36 weeks being the longest and most thorough visit. Visits can occur at a public place like the interviews or at your home. If you wish for me to come to your home and assist you in laboring there before going to the hospital or birth center OR if you are having a home birth, I require that the 36 week appointment be held in your home so that I am familiar with how to get there and where basic things are. During your visits we will go over basic nutrition, baby development, changes in your body, etc. I will also as always be able to answer any questions you may have at this time and provide you with evidence based research on many topics relating to pregnancy, labor and delivery, breastfeeding, and your baby. I am also always available by phone, text, and email for continuous support.
When you are in labor I can offer you support over the phone or by text in the early stages. Once you're ready I am able to come to you and support you in your home until its time to head to the hospital or birth center, or I can meet you there. Both at home and the hospital or center I offer a range of support and comfort techniques such as, but not limited to, aroma therapy, massage, counter pressure support, breathing and labor coaching, affirmations, music, rebozo use, birth ball use, positioning, and much much more. During your prenatal visits we will go over your preferences for support during labor. I also act as another voice in the room to help advocate for you and make sure your wants and needs are being met. After the baby is born I can offer immediate breastfeeding support if it's needed.
I like to visit with you after the baby is born at about 2 weeks postpartum. This visit is mostly to check in on you and baby and make sure you both are doing well and for us to say our goodbyes. This is always a bitter sweet time for me. During this visit I can offer support with breastfeeding and personal postpartum care. This appointment is usually held in your home but can be held elsewhere if needed.
